Pope Francis's first public audience in six months was devoted not only to the challenges of the pandemic but also to words of sympathy for the victims of the tragedy in Beirut, with a special place in his address given to solidarity. The Pope recalled the Babel syndrome: when a man fell to his death during the building of the Tower of Babel, no one paid any attention, yet everyone was alarmed if even a single brick fell, because a brick was worth more than a human life. According to the Pontiff, the same thing is happening today: share prices occupy people more than thousands of deaths from hunger all over the world.
To this the Pope added that it is precisely solidarity that can become the path leading to the healing of personal and social relations after the pandemic.
