In Moscow, Suvorin's shop stood on Nikolskaya Street and later on Neglinnaya Street.

Suvorin took up publishing in 1872 with the issue of a universal reference publication, the "Russian Calendar"; in 1876 he bought the newspaper "Novoye Vremya" ("New Times"), a year later he opened a printing house, and in 1878 his own bookshop, and began to publish books under the imprint "Published by A. S. Suvorin".

Suvorin was one of the largest publishers and booksellers in the Russian Empire, with branches in Moscow, Kharkov, Odessa, Saratov and Rostov-on-Don.
