Louvre director met discontented staff, museum not expected to open before Wednesday

The Louvre is not expected to reopen before Wednesday. The museum's director, Laurence des Cars, has met the staff. According to The Times, the director's address was greeted with disapproving shouts from the hall.

The staff's discontent began long before the incident.

As early as June, the museum was obliged to close because of a strike by attendants, ticket clerks and security guards, who demanded a larger workforce and stronger security measures. According to the trade unions, around 200 permanent posts have been cut at the museum over the past 15 years, almost a tenth of its staff.
