One of Russia's Most Famous Prisons to Be Sold Off for Museum Complexes and Art Venues
It became known in November 2022 that the Kresty remand prison in Saint Petersburg, built in 1884–1892 to a design by the architect Antony Tomishko, is to be sold, and quite recently a report appeared that preparations for the auction are already under way, and that it will take place in the first quarter of 2025.
The prison was used for its intended purpose until 2017. The new owner is expected to carry out redevelopment and adapt the buildings for modern use.
