A few days ago, in her hundredth year, Adile Abbas-ogly, a victim of Stalin's repressions, historian and memoirist, passed away. In 1938 Adile Shahbasovna was declared an "enemy of the people" on account of her family ties to Nestor Lakoba, Chairman of the Central Executive Committee of the Abkhaz ASSR, and was repressed. She managed to survive, and in 1953 she returned to her homeland after 16 years of exile; in 1956 she was declared innocent. In 2005 Abbas-ogly published a book of memoirs, «I Cannot Forget», from which I shall quote below.
