At the exhibition "Not Forever" in the New Tretyakov hangs a portrait of the diplomat Semenov with his wife and daughter by the artist Dmitry Zhilinsky. Oil on chipboard and gesso. My attention was caught by the pointedly rich apartment of a high-ranking official, with costly canvases on its walls: a Tyshler, a woman with an unusual head covering, immediately behind Semenov; a landscape by Falk on the end wall; and Drevin's famous "Bulls" behind the diplomat's wife. Even the uninitiated are given to understand by these details that this is the home of a collector, while the choice of artists points to the character of the collection: unofficial contemporary Soviet art. Indeed, Vladimir Semenov assembled one of the largest collections in the world of non-nomenklatura Soviet and Russian art, including the Jack of Diamonds. Today a considerable part of the world-famous Semenov collection is owned by Vladimir Semenikhin, who mounted a large-scale exhibition, "Jack of Diamonds", in Monaco and Moscow.
