Netflix has released a series based on Gabriel García Márquez's novel "One Hundred Years of Solitude". The first season contains 8 episodes of the 16 planned; the second half of the series is expected in 2025.

Although "No One Writes to the Colonel" and "Chronicle of a Death Foretold" were adapted for the screen during Márquez's lifetime, the writer was categorically opposed to a screen version of "One Hundred Years of Solitude", believing that the text's intricate chronology and magical realism would be difficult to transfer to the screen.

After Márquez's death, the rights to the works of the Nobel laureate passed to his sons, Rodrigo and Gonzalo, who acted as producers of the project. They insisted that filming take place exclusively in Colombia and in Spanish, and that the screenplay follow the text of the novel strictly, without deviations. Only Spanish-speaking actors were invited for the adaptation, and the director was the Colombian Laura Mora Ortega.
