Rubens's tomb in St James's Church in Antwerp and the decoration of its burial chapel

Rubens's tomb is in St James's Church in Antwerp. His remains lie in the family vault beneath the funerary chapel built at the commission of his widow. The altar of the chapel is adorned with Rubens's painting of 1638, "Madonna Surrounded by Saints", chosen for the burial by the artist himself. Above it stands a sculpture of Our Lady of Sorrows by Lucas Faydherbe from Rubens's personal collection, which he likewise designated for his chapel during his lifetime
