“I recall one peculiar literary evening, staged by the Futurists at the Polytechnic Museum

“I recall one peculiar literary evening, staged by the Futurists at the Polytechnic Museum. The literary evening was presided over by two Futurists: David Burliuk and Vasily Kamensky (...) To scandalise the bourgeois, the Futurists pulled off the following trick: David Burliuk was proclaimed the father of Russian Futurism, and Vasily Kamensky was proclaimed the mother of Russian Futurism. Playing the mother of Russian Futurism, Vasily Kamensky strove to lend his gestures a feminine smoothness and tenderness.”

From the memoirs of the poet Ivan Vasilyevich Gruzinov
