The Mayor of Paris's self-description in a keynote speech and a list of criticisms of her
Anne Hidalgo, Mayor of Paris, has hinted at her participation in the 2022 presidential election with a rather theatrical declaration:.
"I am a woman, I am the daughter of an immigrant, I am French, I am a mother of three children, I have three grandchildren, I am a Parisian, I am a Lyonnaise, I am a European, I am a labour inspector, I am the Mayor of Paris… I am of the left, I am a defender of the environment, I am secular, I am a feminist, I am a humanist, I am a socialist…"
I, I, I, I, I, I!
In the first place, as recently as April she declared that she would not be standing.
And in the second, since we are having such a compote, it would not hurt to continue the oratorio with something like: "I am a calamity, I am a destroyer, I am a squanderer, I am incompetent, full of myself, obsessed with power, authoritarian; I turn public spaces into commodities, I wreck the environment, I have plunged Paris into debt, made it dirty, dangerous and decrepit, I am an opportunist, I have handed the streets and parks of the 18th arrondissement over to drug addicts, I hate Parisians, I suffer from delusions of grandeur, I am 62 and it is time to retire." Somehow the keynote speech of the current city mayor would have sounded a little more truthful that way.
