The Krestetsky Pattern Is Bound to the Hand Labour of Its Needlewomen and Cannot Be Replaced Even by the Most Modern Machines

The Krestetsky pattern is bound to the hand labour of its needlewomen and cannot be replaced even by the most modern machines. In Russia this is perhaps one of the few cases in which a traditional craft has turned so quickly, and with such respect for tradition, into a large modern brand. Last year the Krestetsky factory received a grant to build an embroidery school, where from September anyone will be able to learn this distinctive craft, so as not only to preserve folk art but also to bring something new to embroidery. The Krestetsky stitch differs from other enterprises built on the Russian national brand precisely in its drive to take part in the current fashion process. The most vivid example is its constant collaboration with the fashion house of Ulyana Sergeenko, almost every collection of which includes elements and designs created in Krestetsky stitch techniques by the factory's needlewomen. The factory now produces table and household textiles and its own line of clothing with hand embroidery
