Louis XV style commode by Parisian cabinetmaker François Linke, early 20th century

A Louis XV-style commode with a large central panel. Made by François Linke (1855-1946), early twentieth century.

The central door of the commode bears an allegorical bronze composition with a pair of figures. The piece is richly adorned with foliage and flowers, and its façade is crowned at the top by uprights with a pair of angels holding back drapery towards the central medallion. The four curved legs end in bronze sabots. The top is of marble, white with flecks of black veining. Since the hinges of the commode are on both sides, as one may observe, the lavish decoration conceals the opening of the doors.

Here is another work by the eminent Parisian cabinetmaker Linke, of whom we have spoken before. A distinctive feature of Linke's style is the re-creation of authentic Rococo models with the addition of Art Nouveau elements, which lends them a recognisable originality.
