Kolomna Kremlin, the height of its walls, its defence and the surviving towers
The Kolomna Kremlin is one of the foremost Russian fortresses, beautiful, vast, and impressive in its scale and grandeur. It is no accident that it won the competition when Russia-1 chose the country's principal kremlin. In appearance it somewhat resembles the Moscow one, hence the legend of the participation in its construction of the Italian Aloisio da Carezano, the same architect who had a hand in building the Kremlin in Moscow. In the area of the fortress and the length of its walls Kolomna is not greatly inferior to Moscow, while in height the walls of the Kolomna Kremlin exceed the Moscow ones in places by 2-3 m (the walls stand from 18 to 21 m high). This fortress is a true masterpiece of fortification, and it was never once taken by an enemy, if one does not count the Time of Troubles, when the gates were treacherously opened without a fight. However, 120-150 years after its construction the kremlin ceased to play a defensive role and gradually began to fall into decline. Like many buildings no longer in demand, it was simply taken apart for bricks, so that only 7 of its 16 towers and two long stretches of wall have survived to our day
