The apologies of the Paris Olympics organising committee have somehow gone unnoticed: Anne Descamps, a spokeswoman for the organisers, offered a grudging and, of course, insincere apology for the offence caused by the mockery of Leonardo da Vinci's "Last
"It is clear that there was never an intention to show disrespect to any religious group. On the contrary, I think, [together with the ceremony's artistic director] Thomas Jolly, we really tried to celebrate the tolerance of society. Looking at the results of the polls that we have shared, we believe that this goal was achieved. If people took offence, we are, of course, very, very sorry."
It is unclear which polls this woman is talking about, but I would like to draw attention to something else. Let us recall how, not so long ago, at the European Football Championship, sportsmen were made to kneel before BLM. To make it plain how Europe knows how to apologise, and how to make its functionaries act when it is needed by whoever needs it.
