The Historical Museum has launched an online project dedicated to Count Alexei Uvarov, scholar, archaeologist, founder of the Moscow Archaeological Society, collector and patron of the arts
Uvarov was the author of the idea of creating the Historical Museum and devoted all his strength and knowledge to the successful realisation of the project. The website gathers materials on the life and scholarly work of Alexei Uvarov. The scholar considered the creation of the Russian Historical Museum on Red Square the work of his whole life: it was he who devised the museum's concept and its central mission, and determined its appearance.
The site offers video tours and thematic features on the richest of Count Uvarov's private collections, which formed the foundation of the Historical Museum's holdings. Extracts from the memoirs of Praskovya Sergeyevna Uvarova, who carried on the work of her distinguished husband, are presented in podcast form.
The site is a little glitchy, but the initiative is laudable
