Metro accessibility for people with limited mobility in Paris, Tokyo and Moscow
The French on Opportunities for Normal Life for Disabled People in Paris: A Paralympian Carrying the Olympic Flame Cannot Get Down into the Metro.
A reminder: in Paris only 9 stations out of 300 are fully equipped for wheelchair users. In Tokyo, by comparison, it is 186 out of 211.
In Moscow it is hard to speak of ramps, given the escalators, but we do have a free service under which a special staff member accompanies people with limited mobility, including those with impaired sight or hearing, through the metro and on the MCC. True, the service must be booked 24 hours ahead, it can be cancelled no later than 2 hours before, and confirmation that it can be provided comes half an hour before the journey. It is, however, available across the entire metro system and is provided free of charge.
