Photographs from a journey to Egypt, 13 to 27 March 1887
Photographs from a journey to Egypt, 13 to 27 March 1887. The photographs are by Hugues Krafft, a wealthy Parisian bourgeois of German origin who inherited an enormous fortune on his father's death, which allowed him to devote his life to the arts and to travel. He wandered the world and gave himself over, throughout his life, to a passion for photography. He was a member of the Société française de photographie from 1884 to 1890 and travelled with his camera, which used glass plates coated with a gelatin silver bromide emulsion, visiting from 1881 Greece, Italy, Bavaria, the Maghreb, Egypt, Palestine, Spain, Scotland, Austria, Bosnia, Montenegro, Sweden and even the Central Asian territories of Russia.
