The Enceladus Fountain by Gaspard Marsy in the Gardens of Versailles and the Myth of the Giant
The Fountain of the Giant Enceladus in the Gardens of Versailles. Sculptor Gaspard Marsy, 1675/77.
Enceladus, a mythical giant born of Gaia and Tartarus, was slain by Athena, who hurled after him an enormous rock that became the island of Sicily, while the breath of Enceladus became the fire of the volcano Etna.
