The Lomonosov Museum's collection was assembled with the help of other academic institutions, the Hermitage, the Russian and Historical Museums, and the Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography. In 1946-1948, 343,950 roubles were spent on acquisitions, and for this sum 254 items were bought, illustrating Lomonosov's work on mosaic art, astronomy, chemistry, optics and atmospheric electricity. Objects that belonged to Lomonosov personally can be counted on the fingers of one hand: a silver dish, a crystal goblet, a porcelain teapot, a porcelain figurine and a book, plus the carved bookcases that he may have used at work or in his library. These things were acquired from M.V.'s descendants: P.S. Kotlyarevskaya, Pyotr Mikhailovich Rayevsky, Elizaveta Nikolayevna Orlova and Grigory Ivanovich Nostits.
