This silver medal was commissioned by the merchants of Saint Petersburg to commemorate the accession of Alexander I. It was struck in Prussia, at the Royal Mint in Berlin.

The engraver was Abramson.

On the obverse: Minerva, holding a pike in her left hand and in her right a shield with the monogram of Catherine II; to her left stands Hercules, draped in a lion's skin, with an oar in his right hand. The inscription reads STAERKE WEISHEIT, that is, Strength and Wisdom.
