These are not stills from a science-fiction film or a dystopia. Rochester Cathedral is simply inviting visitors to the Museum of the Moon beneath its vaults. The art project of the British artist Luke Jerram, who travels the world with a giant inflatable model of the moon, its surface rendered in the finest detail from NASA imagery, has this time settled in the second oldest church in England, the Cathedral Church of Christ and the Blessed Virgin Mary, dating from the 11th century. In my view, it is an excellent example of a church keeping pace with the times and endeavouring to be interesting and useful to people, not only as a religious institution but as a centre of spiritual and cultural life. One would like to picture something similar in Russia, especially considering that the project is being realised in cooperation with the UK Space Agency, the University of Bristol and the Association of Science and Discovery Centres.
