If you are at the height of a romance, or are simply in love as a matter of course, you too should enjoy these lines of Philostratus:
“Drink to me alone with your eyes... and, please, do not spill the wine, but add water to it and, raising the cup to your lips, fill it with kisses and pass it to the thirsty” (XXXIII, 5-7).
“I sent you a wreath of roses not to do you honour, though I should like to do that too, but
to bestow a benefit upon the roses and keep them from withering” (II, 13-16).
“Send back what is left of
the flowers, for now they smell not only of roses but of you” (XLVI, 8-9).
