Trujillo claims works by Kahlo and Rivera were illegally sold at US auctions

Former director of the Frida Kahlo Museum in Mexico City, Hilda Trujillo Soto, accuses the museum's board of trustees of concealing the disappearance of the artist's works.

Trujillo claims that during her time at the museum she discovered discrepancies between the inventory of works compiled by Frida Kahlo's husband Diego Rivera and the museum's actual holdings. According to her, some of the works were illegally sold at auctions in the United States and ended up in private collections.

The Mexican authorities have stated that they never issued permits for the sale of works by Kahlo and Rivera. The press has appealed to the President of Mexico to launch an investigation into Trujillo Soto's allegations.
