Saint Luke Voyno-Yasenetsky on love for others as the essence of a Christian
Be kinder than is customary, for everyone has a war, battles and losses of their own. Live simply, love generously, attend closely to the needs of another, speak gently... And leave the rest to the Lord. It is love, and not faith, nor dogma, nor mysticism, nor asceticism, nor fasting, nor lengthy prayers, that makes up the true image of a Christian. All else loses its force if the essential is missing: love for one's fellow man.
