Brigitte Bardot doubts the national honours for Belmondo and Josephine Baker
Brigitte Bardot Criticises the Memorial Policy of Macron, Whom She Detests.
The actress looks sceptically on the funeral of her friend Belmondo: “Jean-Paul Belmondo would not have liked his funeral at Les Invalides.” He was “a charming man”, but “I do not understand the origins of the national reverence being shown him; his funeral at Les Invalides, with the government and everyone else, would hardly have pleased him, he was no admirer of such grandiose spectacles.”
On the honours paid to her friend Josephine Baker, who is to be reburied in the Panthéon, Brigitte Bardot is still more severe: she considers such a tribute disproportionate. “It is clearly not the idea of the year! I am not sure that it was her wish. To meet Victor Hugo and other eminent figures in that place… Let us grant that she was incomparable. You pay her your respects, but I do not know whether she would have liked it very much.”
With particular feeling, Bardot, who is 86, issued a warning to one of the future presidents of the Republic: “I would not want that… I do not care where I am buried.”
