British Museum Changes Captions Mentioning Palestine

On a panel about the Hyksos people of the 17th–16th centuries BC, the wording Palestinian descent has been replaced with Canaanite descent, and similar amendments have been made in the gallery of Egyptian sculpture. The changes followed a letter from the British lobby group UK Lawyers for Israel, which considers the term "Palestine" historically incorrect.

The Palestinian Ambassador to the United Kingdom has sent the museum an official protest and appealed to the Foreign Office.

The museum has stated that "Palestine" is still mentioned in several galleries, including the ethnographic section, where dolls in traditional Palestinian costumes from Jericho are on display
