The 2026 American film Project Hail Mary (incidentally, excellent in every respect), based on the novel of the same name, reached Russian cinemas not under its original title, «Project Ave Maria», but in an adapted version (on what grounds, it is unclear), «Project End of the World», which in principle distorts and inverts the original conception. The project itself is about saving the world and stresses that scientists the world over united in a redemptive zeal under the name of the Mother of God. But no: our distributors did not wish to mention or glorify the Virgin Mary, and instead turned the logic of the plot away from the salvation of the world towards its doom. The question is: why? What folly, for the film is precisely not about the end of the world, and no «End of the World» project so much as appears in it.
