On 24 May London Will Launch an Underground Line Named After Queen Elizabeth II, with 40 Stations

On 24 May London will launch an underground line named after Queen Elizabeth II, with 40 stations. The transit section of the Crossrail city railway has been called the largest construction project in Europe; work on it has been under way since 2009, and the total cost came to almost £20 billion. Part of the railway runs above ground, part of it beneath. The opening, which has been postponed several times, will be timed to coincide with the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. This is the third object of the London Underground connected with the name of the royal family: there is also the Jubilee line, named for Elizabeth's Silver Jubilee in 1977, and the Victoria line, named for the universally beloved Queen Victoria.
