Exhibition "Marc Chagall
The exhibition is called "Marc Chagall. The Joy of Earthly Gravity" and is held in the main building of the Pushkin Museum. Two halls and the atrium bring together both Chagall's best-known works and rare, little-known pieces such as portraits of members of his family. One part of the display is devoted to the Jewish Chamber Theatre with its large painted canvases; the hall opens with two works: Chagall's self-portrait at the easel and The Red Jew. The atrium shows small-format works with the most touching subjects: the house of his grandmother and grandfather, his father, mother, sister, brother, grandmother. Further on we find ourselves before a small room from Chagall's house; one may step inside and examine the furniture and furnishings of that era. The third part of the display is graphic art, some of which was donated by Chagall's daughter. The overwhelming majority of the works shown date from the pre-emigration period. Russian museums deserve praise: they did not hold back and were generous in lending. If the layout is not quite ordinary and may be slightly bewildering, the decoration undoubtedly holds the attention: the main staircase is adorned with Chagall's motifs of flying objects
