Memorial workshop of Pyotr Konchalovsky in the Pigit House on Bolshaya Sadovaya

I was recalling today how, on the first day the memorial museum-studio of Pyotr Konchalovsky opened, we went there on a tour with Club 418. A couple of days later, it seems, the decree closing the museums was issued. So we were lucky to get in in time. This is one of the two studios that Konchalovsky occupied at different times in the Pigit House at 10 Bolshaya Sadovaya, but this is where the artist was quartered longer and even lived with his family. From 1956 to 1996 it was the studio of Mikhail Petrovich Konchalovsky. If you enter the courtyard of the Bulgakov House, the end wall with its continuous glazing is precisely the studios: the premises were built for artists from the outset, and Konchalovsky was one of the clients, together with Ryabushinsky and Yakulov. These days the studio is, of course, rather sparsely furnished, but the parquet is genuine, the architecture preserved, the glazing bars original, and they even say that the stool in the corner is the very one that appears in some of the artist's canvases, for example behind the Floor Polisher of 1946.
