During Art Basel this year, Sotheby's will open an exhibition apartment on the Rue de Rivoli in Paris, overlooking the Tuileries Garden, with works worth nearly $150 million on display. None of them will go under the hammer: all are offered for private sale, that is, a transaction directly between seller and buyer without an auction, and the house calls this selection the most expensive private selling exhibition it has ever held in Europe.
The apartment will show works by Picasso, Matisse, Warhol, Richter and Bacon, as well as a separate section devoted to Alexander Calder. The full list of works will be announced later.
At the centre of the apartment there will be a restaurant designed by Tarek Chamma, serving classic Italian cuisine and French desserts. Visitors will be able to come from ten in the morning until six in the evening
