Jusepe de Ribera painted the bearded Magdalena Ventura for the Viceroy of Naples in 1631

The great wonder of nature, Magdalena Ventura of the town of Accumoli among the Samnites, commonly called the region of Abruzzo, in the Kingdom of Naples, aged 52 years. And it is noteworthy that at the age of 37 she began to grow hairy and sprouted a beard so thick and long that one would sooner expect to see it on a bearded man than on a woman, who had borne three children to her husband, Felice de Amici, whom you see beside her.

Jusepe de Ribera, a Spaniard, decorated with the [Order] of the Cross of Christ, a second Apelles of his age, painted this from life for Fernando II, 3rd Duke of Alcalá, Viceroy of Naples, on 16 February of the year 1631
