In April, Galerie Waddington Custot opens a new space on rue de Seine in Saint-Germain-des-Prés. For the opening they have chosen the theme "Nabi Shock": the exhibition is devoted to the Nabis, one of the most underrated movements in the history of modernism.

The Nabis were a group of artists of the late nineteenth century, pupils of the Académie Julian, inspired by Gauguin. The name comes from Hebrew, "prophets". They rejected the academic hierarchy of genres, took from Gauguin the right to "dare everything", and worked at once in painting, stained glass, prints and the decorative arts, without ranking them by importance. Each nevertheless remained himself: they had no single style, only a shared commitment to individuality.

The exhibition will present about thirty works: Bonnard, Denis, Vuillard, Sérusier, Bernard, Ranson. Beside them hang their successors: Jan Davenport, Fabien Verdier, Etel Adnan and others. The logic of the dialogue is that the Nabis discovered painting as an autonomous sensory space, and that idea still works today.
