Trump's Order Cutting Foreign Aid from the USA Has Struck Heritage Protection Programmes

Trump's order cutting foreign aid from the USA has struck heritage protection programmes. The US presidential administration plans to cut around $60 billion of foreign assistance, including the closure of almost half of overseas grants.

One of the organisations affected is the New York-based World Monuments Fund: seven of its grants, totalling more than $800,000, have been revoked, depriving the fund of half of its government funding.

Among the World Monuments Fund projects affected by the cuts are the restoration work at Fourah Bay College, the first Western university of the 19th century in Black Africa, and the 16th-century Ottoman architectural complex of the Takiyyat Ibrahim al-Gulshani in Cairo.
