The Satirikon Theatre Announces Its Eighty-Eighth Season and Names Three Productions by Directors

The company assembled on 6 September 2026. The plans for the eighty-eighth season were set out by the artistic director Konstantin Raikin and the theatre's managing director Elizaveta Gavrilova. The theatre continues to operate without a stage of its own.

The first premiere of the season was Nikolai Roshchin's production "On the Eve", based on Maxim Gorky's play "Yegor Bulychov and Others", which was also shown on the eve of the company's assembly.

Sergei Tonyshev, a pupil of Sergei Zhenovach, who staged "How Faust Went Blind" at the Satirikon in 2024, based on Goethe's play, will be working on "Hamlet". The premiere is planned for April and will be the director's second approach to the tragedy, since he first staged it in 2022 at the Surgut Music and Drama Theatre, where his graduation piece was called "The Legend of Hamlet".

In February Alexandr Tserenya will stage a chamber production of Nikolai Gogol's "The Marriage". It will be his first work at the Satirikon and will round off the laboratory that the theatre held last season with graduates of Yury Butusov's directing course at GITIS. Tserenya's student production "Viy. Conjectures", which the Butusov team went on performing after graduation, was based on texts by the same author and included an excerpt from "The Marriage".

Konstantin Raikin will begin work on a new production at the end of the season; the title of this work has not yet been announced.

The theatre's management also spoke of touring. In October the Satirikon will show productions in Beijing and Shanghai, and in November audiences in Yakutsk will see "Konstantin Raikin. In His Own Voice". In addition, the theatre will hold a series of meetings at the Nekrasov Library, at which directors and actors, together with philologists and literary scholars, will discuss the productions in the repertoire and the texts on which they are based.
