Went to the Photobiennale 2020 at MAMM, sharing my photographic impressions. Photographs of photographs are a genre of their own, and one that, I think, would be far more successful were it not for the glass between the viewer and the object of art. The first thing you see on entering the museum is a composition devoted to doctors and to epidemics in general; I noticed Pepperstein with flowers for Dr Freud. In the basement is Ivan Petrokovich's installation Specimens, about the technological singularity and a strange desynchronisation of the city lighting, which for some reason turns out to be recorded precisely around my own house, how curious. There is a really splendid room of pictures by Igor Mukhin about life in the 1990s: Kirkorov and Yakubovich selling a Moskvich car, yes, yes, even that happened. Next comes the colossal collection of Antoine de Galbert, including the famous photograph by Toulouse-Lautrec. Upstairs are works by the photographer and philosopher Sergey Chilikov, who died this year; I was caught by the old women from the series Old Samara. Lastly, have a look at the protest flag on the Standing Rock reservation in Mitch Epstein's anthology
