Today at the Moscow Variety Theatre the first chords sounded of one of the most anticipated premieres of this autumn: a press conference was held there to present the musical “Waltz-Boston”. There was as yet no orchestra and no full glare of the footlights, but there were sketches of the costumes and sets, as well as a live performance of one of the numbers, “On the Plantations of Love”. Everything was quite genuine, with applause and the first remarks from the audience.
The creators of the project are the media group “Red Square” and Yandex Afisha. The musical is based on the well-known songs of Alexander Rosenbaum, which pierce one to the depths of the soul, and in essence it is a story about eternal values, new beginnings, chance meetings and the power of love. The director Mikhail Mironov described how a concept for the production was born from songs familiar to millions of people. Rosenbaum himself spoke of his attitude to musicals and of the hopes he places in the project.
The cast, incidentally, was also presented. Among the performers of one of the leading roles is Alexander Yatsko, whose gaze from the stage is hard to forget. Judging by the mood in the hall, expectations are high all round, although the first performance is more than two months away. The premiere of “Waltz-Boston” is scheduled in the Variety Theatre's programme for 6 September.
It seems that this year Moscow theatregoers are in for a very full autumn.
