On the one hand, Cosmoscow offers a chance to see the finest contemporary art produced this year, as judged by the leading Russian galleries; on the other, to get acquainted and converse with the key players of our art scene. The best way to do so is a curator-led tour in the first hours of the fair's preview. Today's was held in collaboration with the long-standing partner Beluga x Cosmoscow, and was led for us by the well-known art historian Mikhail Kamensky, former Managing Director of Sotheby's Russia and the CIS.
In my view, this is the optimal way for a brand to establish a connection with the world of art: to work alongside major professionals in the field and to take part in building a dialogue between the viewer, the work of art and the gallerist.
In our case, the route, starting from the signature Beluga bar, led past the stands of the most significant galleries as well as among new names and special projects. Mikhail, moreover, helped to compile a list of not-quite-obvious acquisitions, for example rare canvases by Dmitry Vrubel, author of the famous kiss of Brezhnev and Honecker on the Berlin Wall, and one-off television sets by Alexei Shulgin. Personally, I set my eye on a mad Lebowski by Evgeny Sevastyanov and the mad Vasarelly-isms of Tatyana Andreyeva.
