There is much to tell about this château; it really is an interesting and very rich one. During the reign of Louis XII, the palace-château of Blois was in effect the capital of France. But in the centuries that followed, a good deal of interest happened here too.
Blois saw the death of yet another Queen of France, Catherine de' Medici. Here, too, was confined Marie de' Medici, mother of Louis XIII, who packed her off from Paris to intrigue in a residence on the Loire.
Today the château is in very good condition: in the nineteenth century Louis-Philippe invested large sums in its restoration. In the course of the repair work, a hiding place containing Catherine de' Medici's poisons was discovered in the apartments.
