The Beliefs of the Brothers and Sisters of the Free Spirit and Their Condemnation by Clement V

The followers of the religious movement "Brethren and Sisters of the Free Spirit" denied the importance of the clergy, rites and divine service, accepting only the spiritual side of Christianity. The Brethren, moreover, held that God is present in equal measure in everything in the world, poured out everywhere and equal to man. They preached free love and believed that nothing of the flesh could be sinful, for one can sin only in spirit. They indulged in carnal pleasures where, when and as they pleased. Not infrequently, members of the movement attended Mass naked. Clement V condemned the Brethren and Sisters of the Free Spirit as heretics, and the movement was destroyed, in part joining the Hussites. But only think what advanced ideas for the 13th and 14th centuries.
