Chagall's Panels, Painted for a Hall That Is Long Gone, Return to the Tretyakov Gallery's Display
In 1920 Marc Chagall painted the auditorium of the State Jewish Chamber Theatre, the future GOSET. The central canvas, "Introduction to the Jewish Theatre" (canvas, tempera, gouache, 284 by 787 cm), occupied the main wall. Beside it came "Love on the Stage", the frieze "The Wedding Table" and the four "muses" of the stage: "Literature", "Drama (Theatre)", "Dance" and "Music". After the theatre was liquidated, the works were consigned to storage, and in 1950 they were transferred to the Tretyakov Gallery.
From 16 June the cycle returns to the permanent display on Krymsky Val
