This week brings a positively dizzying number of exhibition openings, but the "where to go" rubric has not been cancelled, so let us not be idle and save one more announcement
On 18 September the All-Russian Museum of Decorative Art opens the project “Vrubel. The Birth of a New Art”, organised jointly with the Russian Museum. The curator is the art historian Sergey Khachaturov.
At the exhibition Vrubel appears as a prophet of the avant-garde, set in the context of the world development of ceramics: from antiquity to medieval maiolica, from the experiments of the Silver Age to contemporary practices.
Among the masterpieces are the fireplace “Mikula Selyaninovich and Volga”, variants of “The Egyptian Woman”, and Vrubel's glazed tiles. More than 40 works will come from Saint Petersburg, among them Vrubel's celebrated “Shells”, the decorative dish “Sadko”, and works by Pavel Filonov, Olga Rozanova and other well-known artists. The exposition will also present contemporary artists: Leonid Tskhe, Irina Korina, Ulyana Podkorytova and Artem Filatov.
From 18 September. Details on the website.
