A Muscovite Woman Choosing a Birch Broom at the Central Market in 1958
The Central Moscow Market stood at 15 Tsvetnoy Boulevard and at that time still operated out of wooden pavilions, before the construction of the city's first permanent covered market building.
The multi-storey market was built to a design by the architect Shulmeister in 1959, although the wooden stalls were still preserved in the courtyard. In 1994 the market was closed, and by the 2000s it had been demolished. The "Tsvetnoy" department store was built on its site.
