The US Department of Justice has announced that if repairs and funding for the Kennedy Center are suspended, the building will have to be demolished
The collision arises from a lawsuit brought by the Democrat Joyce Beatty against the attachment of Trump's name to the building. In May 2026 a court had already ordered that name removed from the title "Donald J. Trump and John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts". Whereupon, in August, the board installed a plaque about the "restoration of the centre by President Trump" and renamed the adjoining square.
The Justice Department's document states that should the centre be demolished, left to decay without repairs and without the name of the most illustrious realtor of all times and peoples, an amphitheatre overlooking the Potomac could be built on the site of the razed building.
And do you know what I was reminded of? That the Polytechnic Museum in the centre of Moscow has been closed in the centre of Moscow for some indescribable refurbishment for 13 years now. What is to become of it?
