A Brief Autobiography, or Rather an Artistic CV, by Vlad Mamyshev-Monroe
Born on 12 October 1969 in Leningrad. Graduated from a school of literature and history and from an art school in 1986. From 1987 to 1989 served in the Soviet Army at the Baikonur Cosmodrome. On returning from the army he began performing as a soloist in Sergey Kuryokhin’s show “Pop-Mekhanika” and exhibiting with the group “The New Artists”. In 1990, together with Timur Novikov and Yu. Lesnik, he founded the television company “Pirate Television”. In 1995 he moved to Moscow and, like the gingerbread man in the fairy tale, rolled here from one gallerist to the next in reverse alphabetical order: from the gallery “Yakut” to the gallery “Aidan”. In the seventh year of his eloquent wanderings he settled down and married; he is now at work digesting the experience he has gathered, in literary form… 2 April 2002.
