The Veiled Christ, 1753. In Italian the sculpture is known as “Cristo velato”
The sculpture was to have been carved by Antonio Corradini, but after his death, when only a terracotta sketch remained, it was decided that the project would be completed by Giuseppe Sanmartino, who was 33 years old when the work was finished.

On seeing the sculpture, Antonio Canova said that he would have given ten years of his life to be the author of such a work.
