Corporal Guibert Alsini clings to the crucified Christ: a stained-glass window in the church of the commune of Monbert
During the First World War, the parish priest of the village of Monbert, Father Frédéric Thibault, read out the dispatches from the front every week, told of what had befallen the local lads who had been called up, and held services for the wounded and the dead. When the war was over, Thibault commissioned portraits of all 32 men of the commune who had fallen at the front. In 1922 the church acquired stained-glass windows with allegorical scenes of life in the field and likenesses of every villager who did not return from the war, each bearing his name, rank, record of service, decorations, and the time and circumstances of his death.
