History to become a compulsory entrance examination for more applicants

The Ministry of Science and Higher Education has drafted amendments to the university admission rules for the 2027/28 academic year. History is to be made compulsory for those specialisms for which a university may currently choose between history and social studies.

As a result, the number of fields of study and specialisms in which history is a compulsory entrance test will rise to 35.

The changes will affect, among others, a number of fields in public administration, law, political science, international relations, regional studies and other social and humanities disciplines.

The draft is still undergoing public consultation. The new rules are expected to take effect on 1 March 2027.
