Asian Cities Founded by Alexander the Great and the Successive Greek Dynasties

Asian cities founded by Alexander the Great and the successive Greek dynasties. According to the principle they observed, these cities and their inhabitants became Greek citizens.

Such cities are marked with yellow and green stars. As for Maracanda, or Samarkand, it is believed to have existed long before Alexander the Great's arrival, from about the 8th century BC, and when Alexander reached these parts on his campaigns of conquest, he saw a large, flourishing city of a kind rarely encountered on his way. Not far away Alexandria Eschate was founded, but its exact location remains unknown to this day: whether it lay in the environs of Bekabad, Fergana, the settlement of Kurkat or the city of Khujand is for the archaeologists of the future to establish.
