An international set of 26 words for spelling out names and addresses

A is for Alfa, I is for India, P is for Papa, T is for Tango, V is for Victor.

For those occasions when one must set down someone's name, or convey by letters the code of a number plate, an address, or some other word or abbreviation, there exists a special international set of words whose initial letters correspond to each letter of the English alphabet. It was established above all by the community of radio amateurs, yet is used in every sphere, from dispatchers to law enforcers.

So that the correct spelling of your name or address is fixed beyond doubt by a hotline operator or a support-service manager, whatever language he may express himself in, it is enough to memorise 26 words.

K is for Kilo, R is for Romeo, X is for X-ray.
